Broke the passenger side mirror clean off backing into our driveway by hitting the fence post.
Internal bit broke hard, shield flew several feet in one direction, mirror flew off and got scratched, wiring for power mirrors ripped right out. Luckily, I was able to slap it back on because only one of the fasteners broke off somehow. Make no mistake, it all needs to be replaced. In the meantime, I snapped the mirror back on, but sleeved the shield back over, and used but one strip of duct tape.
This is why we can’t have nice things.

Whenever I break something on my car, or it breaks on its own, I take solace in the fact that it’s an excuse to upgrade to superior aftermarket parts. Then, in an instance like a broken mirror, I haz many sads when I realize that there is no “upgrading” at all.

My wife has brought back my cars with tweaked mirrors so many times, it’s a running joke now. Everytime she has to borrow one of my cars, I say “watch the mirrors..” which is a joke really, because it’s just been bad luck, not hear fault. Like kids tweaking mirrors in parking lots etc.. It never happens to her when she’s driving her own car. Too bad those are fixed on the Vibe. May have pivoted if it had pivoting/folding mirrors.

In the nearly 5 years of owning the 4Runner, I never once backed into anything. I’ve already backed the Fiesta into a tree. Your Fiesta headrest post jinxed me.

If you break the driver’s side mirror, though, you can get a passenger mirror shipped from a RHD country. That eliminates your blind spot since it’s a convex shape.

I once backed my Saab mirror into a trash can. Blamed my little brother, can’t remember why though. I think he put the trashcan there.

I mean, you
could.
Scavenge a fancy mirror with a temp sensor, convex lens, turn signal, heating element, anti-glare coating, *insert whatever other fancy stuff they put in mirrors in executive sedans*, etc. and fab/paint it to look factory. Hell, if you’re in a state that just has a generic ‘must have two mirrors that see XXX feet’ law you could replace it with a camera and save all those MPGs.
Not that I’d suggest either, but you
could.

My mom has done it a few times, thankfully all her recent cars have had mirrors that fold both ways.

I had a dream just last night, in which the car that I sold to my sister now belonged to my brother. The car very soon had one headlamp out, pinched vacuum lines, and the passenger-side mirror hanging by its wires. In the dream my brother shrugged it off, saying that the mirror “wasn’t important anyway”. *groan*

It’s quite possible, the Pontiac Vibe sold in RHD form in Japan as the Toyota Voltz.
